Spot Light On Tom 'Goose' Gilbert

"The Goose” stormed the competitive eating scene in July 2006 at The 2nd Annual World Italian Sausage Eating Championship. In that, his very first contest, he narrowly missed knocking off competitive eating icon Gentleman Joe Menchetti by devouring 3.68 lbs of Italian Sausage compared to Menchetti’s 3.86. Although “The Goose” took 2nd place he still decisively defeated several top ranked professional eaters in his first attempt at competitive eating. “The Goose” also known as the “Green Beret of Grub” is 25 years old and works as a counselor for the state of Massachusetts. Also, he is an Army Reservist who serves as a Combat Medic. “The Goose” made a resounding statement at his next contest in Pine Bluff Arkansas where he won the The Southern States Chicken Wing Eating Championship. Not only did he handily defeat two of the nations predominate wing eaters he did it in WORLD RECORD fashion. That’s right “THE GOOSE” broke eating legend Sonja Thomas’s Chicken Wing Eating record by devouring 5.6 pounds (145 wings) of chicken meat in a mere 15 minutes. The Goose made a big splash shortly after as he won a Canadian Eating Title by winning the National Canadian Back Bacon Eating Championship at Casino Niagara in Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada. Not bad considering that 90 minutes earlier Gilbert nearly captured the World Milk and Cookies Eating Championship by devouring an amazing 80 Chocolate Crème filled Cookies in five minutes. Unfortunately, Gilbert was disqualified because he did not drink the entire litre of milk as required by contest rules. Although, disappointed, “The Goose” has already begun planning for Cookie redemption next year and states that he will set his goal of nearly 100 cookies for next years event.

The Goose’s table toughness and determination have made him one of AICE’s top guns. While the 6’ 2” 198 pound phenom may get outsized physically, his appetite continues to dwarf the competition’s. Look for this young gun to rewrite the record books.
