Summer -2004 Spotlight on Eddie "The Geek" Vidmar If you think Eddie “The Geek” Vidmar is called the “Geek” because he is a bespectacled, slight of posture and fits the stereotype of a nerd, think again (or simply look at his picture). Eddie gets his unique moniker from the fact that he is super bright when it comes to computers and has an appetite to match. Eddie has been known to “get nasty” with a tray of chicken wings and has put up some other good numbers. Eddie who is 53 and entered his first contest just two years ago on a dare from his friend and fellow Eater David “Coondog” O’Karma. The contest was a qualifier for the Scorchers Heartburn Challenge. Needless to say the “Geek” destroyed the competition and went on to the finals where he finished a close 2nd with 35 3/4 ounces in twelve minutes, losing only by 3/4 of an ounce. Shortly after “The Geek” and his partner in crime “Coon Dog” O’Karma teamed up in a Bratwurst tag team Challenge where they devoured 12 feet 5 Inches of Bratwurst in three five minute rounds. With two competitions under his belt, Eddie returned to the Scorchers Heart Burn Challenge and took top honors where he consumed 38 oz. in 12 minutes (2lbs 4 0z.) easily beating the 2nd place eater by more than four ounces. The Geek recently entered Franks Red Hot Chicken Wing contest in Pittsburgh where he took third place. Not bad considering he lost to veteran Eater David Coon dog O’Karma and rising star Bob Kuhns. Eddie looks forward to competing in an upcoming Chicken Tender Eating Contest. Eddie will face some tough local competition along with some top ranked eaters. If those guys are smart, they better not take “The Geek” lightly. Eddie knows that it takes a ferocious appetite to feed a hungry brain. Eddie's interest in competitive eating is not limited to the table, he is also a strong advocate for Eaters Rights and believes in the principles embodied in the Association of Independent Competitive Eaters. We look forward to following Eddie and will keep readers posted on Eddies eating travels.
